Reno Lovison is an avid film reviewer and theater reviewer.
As executive producer at ChicagoBroadcastingNetwork.com he tends to concentrate on films with a Chicago theme or Chicago connection. That might include actors, producers, writers and other artistic contributors from the area.
His general leaning is toward documentary and Indie film but is also interested in weighing in on Chicago oriented fiction as well as historical film noir and silent features.
Additionally, he covers film related events such as the Chicago International Film Festival looking for the same type of content but also including commentary about how these events and their associated celebrities contribute to the cinema scene and add to the city’s general cultural vibrancy.
The same approach is true for Lovison’s theater reviews. Though he enjoys the large Broadway in Chicago type downtown extravaganza’s as much as anyone, you are more apt to find him in Edgewater and at the other off-Loop locations experiencing the great diversity of local theatre that the city has to offer.
Though he has professional theater and film production experience he prefers to think of himself more as a reviewer than a critic. “I like to write from the point-of-view of an everyman. Simply sharing my experience but perhaps with a grain of knowledge.” Says Lovison. “Because most theater can be done effectively on a bare stage, my pet peeve is a poor script, poor acting and poor direction. If you get the essentials right, the bells are whistles enhance the production. Smoke and lights cannot make up for a bad performance.”
