Jerry G. & Company Aired on WFLD-Chicago in 1969
A cool vintage video we found thanks to “Obsolete Video.”
Before cable TV there was something called UHF (Ulta High Frequency) TV that extended the over-the-air bandwidth introducing a number of additional channels and providing for more diversity that included more local programs.
This pilot for Jerry G. & Company featuring D.J. and media personality Jerry G. Bishop (Born Jairus Samuel Ghan) originally aired on WFLD-32 July 26, 1969. showing the variety of entertainers who were performing in Chicago thanks to places like the Playboy Club and Mister Kelly’s to name a few.
In this 60 minute sometimes psychedelic, soulful, jazzy and folky program you will have a chance to see several individuals and bands who were just starting out.
The show is a bit understated but jammed with talent.
Young-Holt Unlimited with pianist Don Walker that was a spin-off of Chicago’s own Ramsey Lewis Trio, perform their Top 100 Hit “Soulful Strut.”
The Rotary Connection featuring Minnie Riperton perform “The Weight” and “Lady Jane.”
Enjoy a comedy routine by Edmonds & Curley and a political discussion about Vietnam with Gerrit Graham.
Jerry winds up the show with a couple of folk ballad duets with Bob Gibson.
So put on your love beads and headband then sit back and do-your-thing while basking in the groove of Jerry G. & Company, recorded live in 1969 in front of a studio audience from Chicago.
