Argyle Night Market | Uptown Chicago

Argyle Night Market | Uptown Chicago

This is a fun summer event that happens every Thursday night throughout the summer bringing together retail and food vendors as well as local not-for-profit organizations and social service agencies to share information, products, and services with the local community.

Argyle street has sometimes been referred to as the Northside Chinatown but the area has actually been home to a large population of immigrants and refugees from South-east Asia over the past thirty or more years. It is the cultural influence of this population that has the most prominent impact on this part of the Uptown community.

Chicago 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman gives remarks at Argyle Night Market including a tribute to the memory of local poet/ musician Johnny “Vietnam” Nguyen.

This is a quintessential open-air market with great aromas and bustling activity combined with a mix of local residents and visitors from throughout the city. The food is good and typically offering great value. You can have a nice dinner with a sampling of several dishes and a drink for ten dollars or less.

Entertainment varies each week from traditional Asian drummers and lion dancers to jazz, reggae and hip-hop.

Reserve at least on Thursday night in the summer to attend the Argyle Night Market.
